Meet Anna

Anna got her first cello on her 8th birthday as a gift from her Grandmother. She quickly became involved with all the local musical ensembles. When she reached High school she began learning from renowned Australian cellist Trish O’Brien.

In her 7th grade AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) Anna was awarded an A+ (High Distinction) and commended for her “lovely sonorous sound with a wide and very mature range or expression”.


It was soon after this Anna began teaching at the Coffs Harbour Regional Conservatorium. Shortly there after she received 98% score for her Senior Year Music performance final and was put on the Sydney Morning Herald Honor Roll.


Following this she moved to Adelaide to Study under internationally recognized cellist Janis Laurs. The current principal player of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, he was also a founding member of the award winning Australian String Quartet. Under his tutelage she gained a Certificate IV and her Bachelor of Music in Classical Performance from the Elder Conservatorium, University of Adelaide.


During this time she taught private cello lessons at Loreto Girls School, St Peters Collegiate Girls School and Annesley College. She also taught privately at her home in Adelaide. Anna also worked as the orchestral manager at the Adelaide Youth Orchestra.  Anna Moved to San Diego in 2010.  She since founded Eliana Strings ( who provide string ensemble music for events. Anna is both the owner and the resident cellist. She currently is the principal cellist for the Palomar Symphony Orchestra.


Anna is the founding teaching artist for the Fortissimo Orchestra Program which is an El Sistema inspired orchestra program aimed at providing music education to sectors of the community who would not otherwise have access. It is a pioneer program for the San Marcos Unified School District operating at Joli Ann Leichtag Elementary. Fortissimo began in January of 2015 and is now into its second year and is made up of Overture Strings (3rd graders) and Encore Strings (4th graders).


Currently Anna is teaching students from ages 7 through to adult.  She also works as a cello coach at Mt Carmel High School and Oak Valley middle school and Black Mountain Middle School in Poway Unified School District. She is also the President Elect of the American String Teachers Association – San Dego Section.
